Crop season 2024

Abundant rainfall in May and June has led to a complicated situation at crop farms in Uruguay. Difficult to harvest soybeans and maize and late to seed winter crops like rapeseed, wheat or barley. In combination with the usual logistical hiccups (lack of trucks and unloading capacity at silos, the time pressure was high.

At the same time, yields were very good overall as the whole summer we had experienced frequent rainfall. Not much damage to the crops and in general a high quality grain.

Planning for winter crop has shifted from less rapeseed to more wheat as this grain can be seeded later. It means that the soybeans afterwards will probably also be seeded a bit later on in December.
