Grasslands are in very good condition after frequent rainfall during summer and the start of fall. The prices for beef are stable and the outlook for cattle business is positive.
Challenges for cattle are cattle tick (known as garapata). These insects can be found mostly in the north and east of the country. Uruguayan Ministry of Agriculture makes an effort to avoid the spread of this insect. On the farms we manage we had to return some cows upon arrival after inspection found that the cows had ticks on them. Preferably this diagnosis is done before transport and arrival on the farm receiving the new cows.
The Annual Livestock Declaration is due 30 June each year.
