Wool production Uruguay

The estimated total yield of wool shorn during next season (2015/2015) from sheep in Uruguay is 30 million kilos which is very similar to that of 2013/14.

Sheep farming in Uruguay has been falling steadily as meat cattle, dairy and agriculture have been advancing following the boom in beef, grains and oil seed international prices, while wool has been relatively stable.
Whereas Uruguay once had as many as 24 million head of sheep, this is now down to 7.8 million in 2011, according to the Ministry of Agriculture census.

As a result the wool production went down from 41 million kilos in 2002/03 to the current 30 million kilos.
