In 2014 market access was granted by the USDA for citrus from Uruguay. As a result already 20% of entire citrus exports is being traded to the USA. 51% is still being exported to the European Union. Another important market is Russia with 11% of exports.
Market entry to the US was especially successful for mandarins with volumes increasing from 7 M USD in 2014 to already 17 M USD in 2015. Uruguayan citrus producers have invested in improving varieties and productivity in order to meet demands of this new market.
