Investment opportunities in permanent crops in Uruguay are traditionally citrus, grapes and table fruits like apple and pear. Oranges and lemons are exported mainly to markets such as the US. In the past 15 years, we´ve seen projects with blueberries and olives. Olive oils of good quality are sold on domestic markets where consumption increased enormously. There is also a good amount of sales to international markets. However, these projects have had mixed results for different reasons. There is not too much experience with almonds, macadamia or pistachios. New attractive opportunities are available in pecan nuts, oak and stone pine trees.
