The USDA recently approved a Uruguayan program of Natural Meat within the Never Ever III scheme of the US Department. This refers to meat which is free of hormones, anabolic and antibiotics. The Uruguayan Meat Institute certifies meat within this program in accordance with standards set by the USDA. Virtually all meat in Uruguay is produced this way, but in order to meet the demands of the US market, the Uruguayan Meat Institute set up a specific certification program to meet the consumer´s demands. The Uruguayan traceability system of all cattle provides a distinctive value as compared to competitors in the region.
A first shipment is prepared by slaughterhouse San Jacinto which purchased cattle from a group called Vaquería del Este in Treinta y Tres. The meat will be sold with the brand name Nirea Verde.
