Uruguayan authorities have received certification by the USDA to export natural beef meat to the USA. This meat is produced without the application of hormones or anti-biotics. The animals are being kept outside on a permanent basis, grazing on extensive grasslands in Uruguay.
This certification is possible because Uruguay is one of few countries officially free of Foot and Mouth disease and also free of Mad Cow disease.
The cows are provided with ear tags for tracking and tracings of the animals. This means that each single cut of beef meat can be traced back to the specific farm where the animal was raised.
