This week a new shipment of 4.500 dairy cows will be off to China. These calves are between 8 and 15 months old. Uruguay is the only country in South America which is permitted to export living dairy cows to China. Since supplies in Australia are insufficient, Chinese buyers frequently turn to Uruguayan dairy farmers. In recent years China has bought two of three shipment with living dairy cows per year. A new shipment is already planned for December 2014.
After arrival in China and clearance procedures the cows move on to large scale dairy farms in China for the growing dairy industry in this country.
